Part 1: Connecting Body/Mind through simple movements

The first part of the session is based on simple daily movements such as sitting, standing, walking and that will turn up the volume of the relationship between the head, neck, and back whilst in activity. How is it done? I will guide you through the use of my hands and verbal instructions into a series of movements. Why is that relevant? The intention is to provide an experience of non-reaction to what will happen; to provide an experience of how to use ourselves without rushing ahead of the movement and therefore allow presence and awareness to grow. In other words, we will practice presence and awareness.

Part 2: Integrative Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

During that time, you will be able to share your thoughts and concerns that led you to come to therapy. At your own pace, we will share views on thoughts, behaviours, emotions, other, and what could be more helpful for you to overcome those challenging moments. Through the help of different integrative cognitive behavioural therapies, we explore what works best for you.

Part 3: Time to Reset

The third part is done on the table. It allows you to come back to a neutral state of non-reaction. For that, you will allow yourself to stay for 15 to 20 minutes lying down on your back without attempting to move or achieve anything in particular. You will learn how to release long-held tensions by lengthening and widening. I will guide you gently with my hands and verbal instructions helping you to come back to a state of natural equilibrium of yourself. The whole idea of being in this position is to bring yourself into a state of lower stress, anxiety, and pain. The way to achieve it is not through forcing or aiming but just allowing yourself to be there and notice what you notice. That will also give you a chance, in your own timing, to share what we talked during the session.

The Balance Resting State

The Balance Resting State is one of the procedures used by the Alexander Technique to restore well-being and allow a person to come back to a neutral state of non-reaction or a chosen reaction. For that, the pupil will allow her/himself to stay for 15 to 20 minutes in the semi-supine position without attempting to move or achieve anything in particular.

You can lie down on a table, a carpet, or even on the grass!! Use a book underneath your head. To determine the height needed, use the length of your thumb or better, ask your Alexander Technique teacher what the ideal book thickness is to use. That varies according to the person and even the time of the day.

The whole idea of being in this position is to bring yourself into a state of lower stress, anxiety, and pain. The way to achieve it is not through forcing or aiming but just allowing yourself to be there and notice what you notice.
