Therapist in West Hampstead – Somatic CBT North West London

If you are looking for a therapist near South Hampstead, my practice sits between Maida Vale and St John's Wood Underground stations in NW8, a straightforward journey from NW6. I'm Carlos Monteiro, a somatic-cognitive therapist working with young professionals who feel held back by self-doubt, find it hard to put themselves first, or carry a quiet anxiety into their daily and professional lives.

Many of the people I work with are managing well by most measures. They meet their commitments, maintain their relationships, and keep things moving. But there is something they cannot quite shift: a habit of second-guessing themselves, a difficulty speaking up, or a sense of being less at ease than they believe they should be. That is precisely the kind of difficulty this work is designed to address.

My approach brings together Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) with somatic practice, particularly the Alexander Technique. We work with both the thought patterns that keep you stuck and the physical habits that accompany them: the tension that builds before a difficult conversation, the held breath under pressure, the postural bracing that reflects long-held self-doubt.

Somatic Therapy

Anxiety Therapy

Support for those who overthink, feel overwhelmed, or carry a persistent sense of unease into work and daily life.

My Approach

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a structured, evidence-based approach that examines the relationship between thoughts, feelings, and behaviour. Together we look at the beliefs you hold about yourself and others, how those beliefs shape your responses, and how to develop more useful patterns without bypassing what you feel.

Somatic practice (Alexander Technique) brings attention to the body as a site of learned habit. Much of what we call anxiety or self-doubt is also a physical event: a pattern of tension, a way of holding oneself, a response the body has rehearsed over years. By becoming more aware of these patterns and learning to interrupt them, you gain a different kind of agency over your experience.

Together, these approaches work with the whole picture, not just the story you tell yourself, but the body that tells it with you.

What to Expect

Sessions are 50 minutes and take place at my practice between Maida Vale and St John's Wood. I offer a free 20-minute consultation to talk through what has been bringing you to therapy and what you are hoping to change, with no obligation to commit at that stage. The work itself is collaborative and practical, building tools you can use immediately while also attending to the deeper patterns that sustain the difficulty.

Getting Here from South Hampstead
