Therapist in Angel – Somatic-Cognitive Therapy North London
Searching for a therapist near Angel? I'm Carlos Monteiro, and I work with young professionals from Angel and the rest of N1 at my practice between Maida Vale and St John's Wood in NW8. My work centres on confidence, people-pleasing, social anxiety and self-doubt, using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy together with somatic awareness from the Alexander Technique.
Angel draws a lot of people in demanding, fast-moving roles. Those I work with from here and elsewhere in Islington are usually functioning well by any outside measure. What they want help with is the part others don't see: the inner critic, the difficulty asking for what they need, or the tension that follows them home.
CBT gives structure to that work, helping you examine the thinking that keeps you second-guessing yourself. The somatic element brings awareness to how those patterns show up in the body, so change isn't only something you understand but something you can feel.

How I Can Help
Confidence Therapy
For those who feel held back, second-guess themselves, or struggle to feel fully like themselves at work or in daily life.
People Pleasing Therapy
For those who over-extend, struggle to say no, or put everyone else's needs first at cost to themselves.
Social Anxiety Therapist
For those who feel on edge around others, hold back in social situations, or struggle to speak up freely.
CBT Therapy
Practical, structured support for changing the thought patterns and beliefs that keep you stuck.
Somatic Therapy
Body-based awareness to help you notice and release the physical patterns that accompany stress and self-doubt.
Anxiety Therapy
Support for those who overthink, feel overwhelmed, or carry a persistent sense of unease into work and daily life.
My Approach
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a well-established method for understanding the relationship between thoughts, emotions and behaviour. We look at the patterns that keep you stuck and develop more helpful ways of handling the situations that trigger them.
Somatic practice (Alexander Technique) recognises that anxiety and low confidence live in the body as well as the mind. Noticing how you hold yourself, how your breathing shifts under pressure and where tension collects gives you practical tools for change.
Working on both levels together tends to produce change that lasts.

What to Expect
Sessions run for 50 minutes at my practice between Maida Vale and St John's Wood. There is a free 20-minute consultation beforehand, with no commitment, to talk about what has brought you to therapy. Sessions are collaborative and practical, focused on your real circumstances rather than theory.
Getting Here from Angel
From Angel station, take the Northern line one stop to King's Cross St Pancras, then the Circle, Hammersmith & City or Metropolitan line to Baker Street and the Jubilee line one stop to St John's Wood. The practice is about a 12-minute walk from there, and the whole trip takes around 30 to 35 minutes. The 274 bus also runs from Angel through Camden Town to Lord's Cricket Ground, around a 15 to 20-minute walk from the practice. Street parking is available nearby.
