Therapist in Finsbury Park – Somatic-Cognitive Therapy North London
If you live around Finsbury Park and have been thinking about therapy, I'm Carlos Monteiro. I work with young professionals from N4 and the surrounding neighbourhoods at my practice between Maida Vale and St John's Wood in NW8, focusing on confidence, people-pleasing, social anxiety and the self-doubt that often sits underneath them. My approach combines CBT with somatic work based on the Alexander Technique.
Many of my clients from this part of Islington are outwardly doing fine. They hold down demanding jobs and keep busy social lives. Underneath, though, there can be a steady hum of worry, a habit of putting everyone else first, or a sense of never quite relaxing in company.
CBT helps untangle the beliefs that drive those patterns, such as needing to be liked or fearing you'll get it wrong. Somatic work brings in the body: the jaw that clenches, the breath that shortens, the posture that shrinks when you feel exposed. Addressing both is often what allows real change.

How I Can Help
Confidence Therapy
For those who feel held back, second-guess themselves, or struggle to feel fully like themselves at work or in daily life.
People Pleasing Therapy
For those who over-extend, struggle to say no, or put everyone else's needs first at cost to themselves.
Social Anxiety Therapist
For those who feel on edge around others, hold back in social situations, or struggle to speak up freely.
CBT Therapy
Practical, structured support for changing the thought patterns and beliefs that keep you stuck.
Somatic Therapy
Body-based awareness to help you notice and release the physical patterns that accompany stress and self-doubt.
Anxiety Therapy
Support for those who overthink, feel overwhelmed, or carry a persistent sense of unease into work and daily life.
My Approach
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) offers a practical way to see how your thoughts, emotions and actions link together. We identify the specific patterns that hold you back, then test out different ways of responding in real situations.
Somatic practice (Alexander Technique) attends to how anxiety and self-doubt are held physically. With practice, you learn to spot tension as it builds and let it go, which makes it easier to stay present and speak up.
The two approaches support each other, so progress in one tends to reinforce the other.

What to Expect
Each session is 50 minutes. We begin with a free 20-minute consultation, which is a chance to talk through what's on your mind and decide whether working together makes sense. There is no obligation. From there, sessions are collaborative and grounded in your day-to-day life.
Getting Here from Finsbury Park
Finsbury Park is well connected for the practice. Take the Victoria line to Green Park and change to the Jubilee line for St John's Wood, or change at Oxford Circus for the Bakerloo line to Maida Vale, about a 7-minute walk from Violet Hill. Either route takes around 35 minutes. Street parking is available near the practice if you prefer to drive.
