Therapist in Holloway – Somatic-Cognitive Therapy North London

Looking for a therapist near Holloway? I'm Carlos Monteiro, a somatic-cognitive therapist working with young professionals from across N7 at my practice between Maida Vale and St John's Wood in NW8. I help people with confidence, self-doubt, people-pleasing and social anxiety, using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy alongside the body-based awareness of the Alexander Technique.

The people I see from Holloway and the wider Islington area are often busy and capable, with plenty going on at work and outside it. What brings them to therapy is usually quieter: agreeing to things they don't want to do, rehearsing conversations for days, or feeling tense around colleagues without quite knowing why.

CBT gives us a clear way to work with the thoughts and assumptions behind those habits. The somatic side pays attention to what happens physically at the same time, such as a tightening chest before speaking or shoulders that never fully drop. Changing both tends to make the difference hold.

How I Can Help

Confidence Therapy

For those who feel held back, second-guess themselves, or struggle to feel fully like themselves at work or in daily life.

People Pleasing Therapy

For those who over-extend, struggle to say no, or put everyone else's needs first at cost to themselves.

Social Anxiety Therapist

For those who feel on edge around others, hold back in social situations, or struggle to speak up freely.

CBT Therapy

Practical, structured support for changing the thought patterns and beliefs that keep you stuck.

Somatic Therapy

Body-based awareness to help you notice and release the physical patterns that accompany stress and self-doubt.

Anxiety Therapy

Support for those who overthink, feel overwhelmed, or carry a persistent sense of unease into work and daily life.

My Approach

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a structured, evidence-based approach to understanding how thoughts, feelings and behaviour affect one another. Together we pinpoint the patterns that keep people-pleasing or self-criticism going, and practise more useful responses in the situations that matter to you.

Somatic practice (Alexander Technique) looks at the physical side of those same patterns. Low confidence and anxiety often show up as held breath, bracing or habitual posture. Learning to notice and release these gives you more choice in how you respond.

Used together, the two approaches work on mind and body at once rather than treating them as separate problems.

What to Expect

Sessions last 50 minutes and take place at my practice between Maida Vale and St John's Wood. Before we start, I offer a free 20-minute consultation with no commitment, so you can ask questions and see whether the approach feels right. Sessions are practical and collaborative, built around what is actually going on for you.

Getting Here from Holloway

Holloway Road station is on the Piccadilly line. Take it two stops to King's Cross St Pancras, then the Circle, Hammersmith & City or Metropolitan line to Baker Street, and the Jubilee line one stop to St John's Wood.
