Therapist in King's Cross – Somatic-Cognitive Therapy Central London

For anyone living or working around King's Cross, my practice is only a short tube ride away. I'm Carlos Monteiro, a somatic-cognitive therapist with a practice between Maida Vale and St John's Wood in NW8, and I work with young professionals on confidence, people-pleasing, social anxiety and self-doubt. I combine Cognitive Behavioural Therapy with body-based awareness from the Alexander Technique.

King's Cross is full of people in busy, high-pressure roles, and many of those I work with from here and across Camden are managing well on the surface. Underneath, they may be constantly second-guessing themselves, avoiding conflict at any cost, or carrying a tension that never quite eases.

CBT helps us look clearly at the beliefs and habits behind that. The somatic side brings attention to what is happening physically, the held breath, the tight shoulders, the urge to shrink, so you can start to respond differently rather than simply understand the problem.

Serving King's Cross and Surrounding Areas

How I Can Help

Confidence Therapy

For those who feel held back, second-guess themselves, or struggle to feel fully like themselves at work or in daily life.

People Pleasing Therapy

For those who over-extend, struggle to say no, or put everyone else's needs first at cost to themselves.

Social Anxiety Therapist

For those who feel on edge around others, hold back in social situations, or struggle to speak up freely.

CBT Therapy

Practical, structured support for changing the thought patterns and beliefs that keep you stuck.

Somatic Therapy

Body-based awareness to help you notice and release the physical patterns that accompany stress and self-doubt.

Anxiety Therapy

Support for those who overthink, feel overwhelmed, or carry a persistent sense of unease into work and daily life.

My Approach

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) provides a clear, practical framework for understanding how your thoughts, feelings and behaviour interact. We identify what keeps you stuck and practise new responses, step by step.

Somatic practice (Alexander Technique) brings the body into the work. Anxiety and self-doubt often show up physically before you are aware of them, and learning to notice and release that tension makes it easier to feel grounded in everyday situations.

Together, the two approaches address both how you think and how you carry yourself.

What to Expect

Sessions are 50 minutes and take place at my practice between Maida Vale and St John's Wood. We start with a free 20-minute consultation, with no obligation, to talk about what you're looking for and whether the approach suits you. The work itself is collaborative and shaped around your life.

Getting Here from King's Cross

From King's Cross St Pancras, take the Circle, Hammersmith & City or Metropolitan line three stops to Baker Street, then the Jubilee line one stop to St John's Wood, about a 12-minute walk from the practice. You can also change at Baker Street for the Bakerloo line to Maida Vale, around 7 minutes' walk away. Door to door, allow roughly 25 to 30 minutes. The 46 bus runs from King's Cross to St John's Wood station without a change, though the route is longer. Street parking is available near the practice.
