Therapist in Paddington – Somatic CBT West London
Searching for a therapist near Paddington?
With one of London's busiest transport hubs right on your doorstep, Paddington is a place where a lot of people pass through – but finding genuinely good professional support nearby can feel harder than it should. I'm Carlos Monteiro, a somatic cognitive therapist, and my practice is around 10–12 minutes from Paddington Station, conveniently located between Maida Vale and St John's Wood in NW8/W9.
I work primarily with young professionals – people who are good at what they do, who hold things together day to day, but who are finding that stress, anxiety, or self-doubt is starting to cost them. My approach brings together cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and somatic practices, particularly the Alexander Technique. This combination means we address both the thinking side of stress – the rumination, the pressure, the expectations – and the physical side: the tension, the bracing, the breathing patterns that can keep the nervous system locked in high gear. Whether you work near Paddington, live in W2, or simply find this part of London easy to reach, my practice is well-connected and straightforward to get to.
Serving Paddington & Surrounding Areas
I see clients from Paddington (W2) and the surrounding areas including:
- Maida Vale,
- Bayswater,
- Edgware Road,
- Hyde Park,
- Little Venice,
and the wider Westminster area.
How I Can Help Young Professionals
The pressures that bring people to therapy are often remarkably similar, even across very different roles and industries:
- Workplace stress and the risk of burnout
- Persistent anxiety and difficulty switching off
- Low confidence or a sense of not being good enough
- Performance anxiety and imposter syndrome
- Physical symptoms: chronic tension, disrupted breathing, fatigue
- Managing high-stakes career transitions or rapid professional growth
- Reclaiming a work-life balance that actually feels sustainable
My Integrative Approach
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT):
We work together to identify the thought patterns, core beliefs, and behavioural cycles that are driving your stress or anxiety. CBT is evidence-based, practical, and gives you skills you can apply in real situations.
Somatic Practices – The Alexander Technique:
This is where we look at stress in the body – not as a metaphor, but as a physical reality. The Alexander Technique helps you recognise and release the habitual tension patterns that accumulate under pressure, and develop a calmer, more grounded way of carrying yourself through demanding days. Together, these approaches offer a more complete path through stress and anxiety than either could alone.

What to Expect
All sessions are 50 minutes, held at my practice between Maida Vale and St John's Wood. We start with an initial consultation to get a clear picture of what you're experiencing and what you'd like to work toward. Sessions are collaborative – you're not a passive recipient, and the approach is tailored to what's actually useful for you. You'll gain practical tools from early on, while we also work on the deeper patterns beneath the surface.
Travel from Paddington
Paddington Station is served by the Bakerloo, Circle, District, and Hammersmith & City lines, as well as mainline rail and the Elizabeth line.
From Paddington, the most straightforward route is the Bakerloo Line to Warwick Avenue or Maida Vale – either a one or two-stop journey, putting you within easy walking distance of the practice.
Total travel time from Paddington is typically around 10–12 minutes.

About Me
I hold qualifications as a cognitive behavioural therapist and as a certified teacher of the Alexander Technique. My practice focuses specifically on young professionals, drawing on both psychological and somatic training to offer an integrative approach that addresses stress, anxiety, and confidence at every level.
