Therapist in Bayswater – Somatic CBT West London

My practice is a short journey from Bayswater, sitting between Maida Vale and St John's Wood Underground stations in NW8. I'm Carlos Monteiro, a somatic-cognitive therapist working with young professionals who feel held back by self-doubt, struggle to put themselves first, or carry a low-level anxiety into their daily and professional lives. My approach brings together Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) with somatic practice, particularly the Alexander Technique, working with both the thinking patterns that keep you stuck and the physical habits that accompany them.

The people I tend to work with are not struggling to function. They are often capable and self-aware, but there is something they cannot quite shift: a habit of deferring to others, of feeling less confident than the situation requires, or of sensing tension and unease without an obvious source. These patterns are learnable, which means they can also be unlearned.

Serving Bayswater and Surrounding Areas

My practice is accessible from across West and North West London, including Bayswater (W2), Notting Hill, Paddington, Little Venice, Maida Vale, and the wider W2 and Westminster area.

How I Can Help

Confidence Therapy

For those who feel held back, second-guess themselves, or struggle to feel fully like themselves at work or in daily life.

People Pleasing Therapy

For those who over-extend, struggle to say no, or put everyone else's needs first at cost to themselves.

Social Anxiety Therapist

For those who feel on edge around others, hold back in social situations, or struggle to speak up freely.

CBT Therapy

Practical, structured support for changing the thought patterns and beliefs that keep you stuck.

Somatic Therapy

Body-based awareness to help you notice and release the physical patterns that accompany stress and self-doubt.

Anxiety Therapy

Support for those who overthink, feel overwhelmed, or carry a persistent sense of unease into work and daily life.

My Approach

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a structured, evidence-based approach that looks closely at the beliefs and thought patterns shaping how you feel and respond. Rather than asking you to think more positively, it helps you examine where your patterns came from and build more useful ways of relating to yourself and others.

Somatic practice (Alexander Technique) attends to the body's role in all of this. Confidence, anxiety, and self-doubt are not purely mental experiences: they live in the way you hold yourself, the way your breathing tightens under pressure, the habitual bracing that has become invisible precisely because it is so familiar. Developing awareness of these patterns, and learning to change them, adds a dimension that talking alone does not reach.

Together, the two approaches address the full picture.

What to Expect

Sessions are 50 minutes and take place at my practice between Maida Vale and St John's Wood. I offer a free 20-minute consultation before you commit to anything, so we can talk through what has been bringing you to therapy and whether this way of working feels right for you. The work itself is collaborative and practical, building tools for immediate use while also attending to the deeper patterns that sustain the difficulty.

Getting Here from Bayswater

From Bayswater or Queensway stations, the most direct route is the Circle or District line to Paddington, then the Bakerloo line to Maida Vale, which is a 7-minute walk from the practice. The whole journey takes around 20 minutes. Several bus routes along the Edgware Road and Maida Vale also serve the area. Parking is available nearby if you prefer to drive.
