Therapist in Belsize Park – Somatic CBT North London
Are you looking for a therapist near Belsize Park?
Belsize Park has a particular quality to it – the village feel, the independent cafés, the sense that people here value both achievement and wellbeing. If that resonates with you, and you're a young professional who's finding that stress or anxiety is quietly chipping away at your quality of life, my practice may be exactly what you're looking for.
I'm Carlos Monteiro, a somatic cognitive therapist with a practice conveniently located between Maida Vale and St John's Wood – around 12–15 minutes from Belsize Park via the Northern Line. I specialise in supporting young professionals who are managing the pressures of demanding careers while trying to maintain their health, relationships, and sense of self. My approach is integrative: I combine cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) with the Alexander Technique and other somatic practices, working with both the psychological and physical dimensions of stress. For many of my clients, it's the combination that makes the difference – addressing not just the thoughts driving anxiety, but the way stress lives in the body day to day.
Serving Belsize Park & Surrounding Areas
My practice is within comfortable reach of:
- Belsize Park (NW3),

and the wider North London area.
Working with Young Professionals
People who come to me from Belsize Park and the surrounding area are often highly capable, thoughtful individuals who have simply reached a point where coping strategies alone aren't enough. Common themes include:
- Chronic workplace stress and the early stages of burnout
- Anxiety that shows up in both professional and personal life
- Confidence challenges and a persistent sense of not measuring up
- Imposter syndrome – particularly among high-achievers
- Physical symptoms of stress that have started to feel normal
- The pressure of major career decisions or professional transitions
- Difficulty creating real boundaries between work and personal time
My Integrative Approach
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT):
CBT gives us a structured, evidence-based framework for understanding how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours interact. We work to identify the patterns that are keeping you stuck, and develop more useful ways of responding to pressure and uncertainty.
Somatic Practices – The Alexander Technique:
Stress has a physical signature. The Alexander Technique is a practice that helps you become aware of habitual tension – in the neck, the breath, the whole bearing of the body under pressure – and develop a different relationship with it. Rather than simply managing stress, we work toward a genuine shift in how you inhabit and respond to challenging situations. These two dimensions – cognitive and somatic – work together to create lasting change.

What to Expect
Sessions run for 50 minutes and take place at my practice between Maida Vale and St John's Wood. We begin with an initial consultation to understand your situation, your goals, and what a useful outcome would look like for you. The work is always collaborative – shaped around your specific circumstances rather than a one-size-fits-all programme. You'll develop practical skills you can use between sessions, alongside longer-term work on the underlying patterns.
Getting Here from Belsize Park
From Belsize Park Underground (Northern Line), take the train southbound to Waterloo, then change to the Bakerloo Line toward Harrow & Wealdstone, alighting at Warwick Avenue or Maida Vale – the practice is a short walk from either station.
Alternatively, a direct bus or cab ride from Belsize Park takes around 15–20 minutes depending on traffic.
Total journey time from Belsize Park is typically 12–15 minutes.

About Me
I am a qualified cognitive behavioural therapist and a certified Alexander Technique teacher. I've built my practice specifically around the needs of young professionals, drawing on dual training in psychological and somatic disciplines to offer something genuinely different from standard talking therapy.
