Therapist in Regent's Park – Somatic CBT North West London
Looking for a therapist near Regent's Park?
I'm Carlos Monteiro, a somatic cognitive therapist with a practice conveniently located between Maida Vale and St John's Wood, a short journey from the park and the surrounding NW1 area. I work specifically with young professionals who are dealing with the pressures that tend to build up quietly: workplace stress, persistent anxiety, and the kind of confidence challenges that can feel hard to name.
My approach combines cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) with somatic practices, particularly the Alexander Technique. This means sessions address both the thought patterns that feed stress and the physical ways it shows up in your body: tension through the neck and shoulders, disrupted breathing, a sense of bracing that you carry through the working day.
If you're based near Regent's Park, Baker Street, or anywhere in NW1, my practice is straightforwardly accessible via the Bakerloo Line.
Serving Regent's Park and the Surrounding Area
I work with clients from across the area, including:
- Regent's Park, NW1
- St John's Wood
- Marylebone
- Primrose Hill
- Camden Town
- Across Central and North West London
and the wider North London area.
How I Can Help Young Professionals
Whether the pressure is coming from a demanding job, a difficult manager, or the background hum of not quite feeling like you're coping, therapy can help you get some clarity and develop practical tools. Common reasons people get in touch include:
- Workplace stress and burnout
- Anxiety and persistent worry
- Low confidence or imposter syndrome
- Performance anxiety in high-stakes environments
- Physical symptoms of stress: tension, breathlessness, difficulty switching off
- Career transitions and the anxiety that comes with them
- Feeling stuck in patterns of overwork or avoidance
My Integrative Approach
Sessions draw on two complementary disciplines. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) helps us identify and work with the beliefs, thought patterns, and behaviours that are keeping stress in place. I specialise in Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT), a practical, evidence-based form of CBT that is particularly effective for the kinds of pressures professionals tend to face.
Alongside this, somatic practice rooted in the Alexander Technique addresses the physical dimension of stress: the way we hold tension, the habits of movement and breathing that reinforce anxiety without us realising it. Together, these approaches give you tools that work at both levels. You can find out more about this on my somatic therapy and CBT therapy pages.

What to Expect
Sessions are 50 minutes and take place at my practice, between Maida Vale and St John's Wood. We start with an initial consultation to explore what's brought you to therapy and what you'd like to change. From there, sessions are collaborative and practical, combining tools you can use straightaway with deeper work on the patterns underlying your stress. You can read more about the process on my what to expect in therapy page.
Getting Here from Regent's Park
My practice is easy to reach from the Regent's Park area. Regent's Park Underground (Bakerloo Line) is a short hop to Maida Vale station, which is a 7-minute walk from my practice. Baker Street station (Bakerloo, Circle, Jubilee, and Metropolitan lines) is also well connected. The journey is typically under 20 minutes door to door.

About Me
I am a certified CBT therapist, trained at the College of Cognitive Behavioural Therapies (CCBT) and accredited with the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS). I am also a certified Alexander Technique teacher, having trained at the Alexander Technique Training School (ATTS) in London, where I have been teaching since 2017, and I am a member of the Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique (STAT). Before retraining as a therapist, I spent a number of years working in business, which informs how I work with the particular pressures professionals face. You can learn more on my about and approach page.
