Therapist in Kilburn – Somatic CBT North West London

My practice is a short journey from Kilburn, located between Maida Vale and St John's Wood Underground stations in NW8. I'm Carlos Monteiro, a somatic-cognitive therapist, and I work with young professionals who are ready to address what is quietly holding them back: a tendency to defer, to doubt their own judgement, or to feel on edge in situations that others seem to navigate with ease.

The people I tend to work with are not in crisis. They are often capable and self-aware, already doing the work of managing their lives well. But there is something persistent underneath, a difficulty setting limits, a habit of putting others first, or a social anxiety that shows up reliably even when they know it is not helping them. These are patterns, and patterns can be worked with.

My approach draws on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and somatic practice, particularly the Alexander Technique. This means we do not just talk about how you think and feel. We also attend to how stress, self-doubt, and anxiety show up in the body, and what becomes possible when you begin to change those physical habits alongside the cognitive ones.

Serving Kilburn and the Surrounding Area

My practice draws clients from across North West and North London, including Kilburn (NW6), South Hampstead, West Hampstead, Maida Vale, Queen's Park, and the wider NW8 corridor.

How I Can Help

People Pleasing Therapy

CBT Therapy

Practical, structured support for changing the thought patterns and beliefs that keep you stuck.

Somatic Therapy

Body-based awareness to help you notice and release the physical patterns that accompany stress and self-doubt.

Anxiety Therapy

Support for those who overthink, feel overwhelmed, or carry a persistent sense of unease into work and daily life.

My Approach

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) provides a clear framework for examining the thoughts and beliefs that shape how you feel and behave. Many people have already tried to think their way out of their difficulties before arriving in therapy. CBT does not simply ask you to think differently. It helps you understand why certain patterns persist and gives you practical tools for changing them.

Somatic practice (Alexander Technique) brings a different angle. Confidence, anxiety, and self-doubt are not purely mental experiences: they have a physical life too. The tightening in the throat before speaking, the posture that signals uncertainty, the held breath in a difficult meeting. Working with these body-level habits alongside the cognitive work tends to produce something more durable than either approach alone.

What to Expect

Sessions are 50 minutes and take place at my practice between Maida Vale and St John's Wood. Before you commit to anything, I offer a free 20-minute consultation to talk through what has been bringing you to therapy and whether this approach feels like a good fit. The work is practical and collaborative, focusing on what is live in your life now while also attending to the patterns that have built up over time.

Getting Here from Kilburn

From Kilburn Park on the Bakerloo line, it is around 10 minutes to Maida Vale, which is a 7-minute walk from the practice. From Kilburn High Road on the Jubilee line, a change at Baker Street brings you to St John's Wood in around 15 minutes. Several bus routes along Maida Vale and the Edgware Road also serve the area directly. Parking is available nearby for those who prefer to drive.
