Therapist in Queen's Park – Somatic CBT North West London

Looking for a therapist near Queen's Park who combines proven psychological techniques with attention to the body? I'm Carlos Monteiro, a somatic cognitive therapist based between Maida Vale and St John's Wood in NW8, a short journey from Queen's Park. I work with young professionals who feel held back by low confidence, people pleasing, or social anxiety, using a combined approach of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and somatic, body-based awareness through the Alexander Technique.

Many of the people I see from Queen's Park are functioning well at work, meeting deadlines and holding down demanding roles, while carrying something more persistent underneath: a habit of second-guessing themselves, difficulty saying no, or a low hum of anxiety that doesn't quite switch off.

My approach brings together CBT, which addresses unhelpful thought patterns directly, with somatic practice through the Alexander Technique, which works with the physical tension and postural habits that often accompany anxiety and self-doubt. Together, these give you practical tools alongside a steadier, more grounded sense of yourself.

Serving Queen's Park and Surrounding Areas

How I Can Help

Confidence Therapy

For those who feel held back, second-guess themselves, or struggle to feel fully like themselves at work or in daily life.

People Pleasing Therapy

For those who over-extend, struggle to say no, or put everyone else's needs first at cost to themselves.

Social Anxiety Therapist

For those who feel on edge around others, hold back in social situations, or struggle to speak up freely.

CBT Therapy

Practical, structured support for changing the thought patterns and beliefs that keep you stuck.

Somatic Therapy

Body-based awareness to help you notice and release the physical patterns that accompany stress and self-doubt.

Anxiety Therapy

Support for those who overthink, feel overwhelmed, or carry a persistent sense of unease into work and daily life.

My Approach

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) looks directly at the thought patterns and beliefs that keep you stuck, giving you practical, structured tools to work with day to day.

Somatic practice (Alexander Technique) works with the physical habits that accompany anxiety and self-doubt: held tension, shallow breathing, and postural patterns that build up over time.

Together, these two strands help you address both what's happening in your mind and what's held in your body.

What to Expect

Sessions are 50 minutes and take place at my practice between Maida Vale and St John's Wood. We start with a free 20-minute consultation to talk through what has brought you to therapy and whether this approach feels right for you. From there, the work is practical and collaborative, building tools you can use in daily life.

Getting Here from Queen's Park

Queen's Park station is served by the Bakerloo line, putting my practice within easy reach. Take the Bakerloo line two stops to Maida Vale, then it's around a 7-minute walk to 6 Violet Hill. The whole journey typically takes 15 to 20 minutes door to door. Buses along Chippenham Road and Kilburn Park Road offer an alternative if you'd rather not change lines. On-street parking near the practice is limited.
